B.C.A. British Championship, Scarborough 2011

This took place at the Red Lea Hotel in Scarborough.

Chris Ross won the title with 7/7.
Stephen Brown took 1^st in the minor tournament with 6/7.

The tournament organiser writes:
As organisers Jan and I would also like to express our thanks to all those who made this a great week. Our friends and associate members were, as usual, wonderful. Many of our newer and younger members helped greatly to make it a warm and friendly event. It was a pity more of our strong players did not turn up to give Chris a little more competition but he is to be congratulated on another clear sweep. A number of members benefited from generous coaching and going through games by Chris and, one of our associates, David Mills. Many of the other guests at the hotel told us how much they had enjoyed our sociable group and, particularly, the Soiree got together by Joan Shorrock and Juliet reeve and performed by the multi talented BCA members.
All of the social events we offered were supported by many of those present including a great night of friendly chess and real ale at the Scarborough chess club, An equally great evening at the Scarborough Jazz club, where we were made royally welcome by the regular members and the traditional Sheila's Quiz which was won by '98 Brussel Sprouts' The team were named after a memorable fete by Thuy Mallalieu, whose performance is surely fit for the Guineas book of records!

Finally congratulations to the winner of the Event Chris Ross with a perfect 7 from 7 which came after his excellent performance in the British championship in Sheffield and to Bill Armstrong who finished second again after his excellent performance in the Major open at Sheffield where he scored 6 from 11.

Congratulations also to all who entered and gave of their best. A report and some games should soon be available on our website.
