The B.C.A. AGM and chess congress 4/6/March 2011 was held at
the Hallmark Derby hotel.
The Hallmark is a particularly suitable venue being so conveniently
close to the railway station with many of our visually impaired
members travelling by train.

We
have also benefitted from the generosity of the Derbyshire folk
particularly the Derbyshire Freemasons who generously sponsored
the event and the Derby Lions who, once again, provided handsome
trophies for the top three in each section.
Once
again, Chris Ross scored a resounding victory in the open with
5 from 5 followed by: 3.5, Steve Burnell, 3, Graham Lilley and
Tristram Cole, 2.5, Bill Armstrong, Ian Blenko, David Hodgkins,
Richard Murphy and Roger Waters, 2, John Gallagher, Steve Thacker
and mark Kirkham, 1.5, Les Whittle.

Grading
prizes went to: Ian Blenko, David Hodgkins, Richard Murphy
and Roger Waters.
The
Minor event finished in a tie with Steve Brown and Phil Smith
sharing the first prize with 4 from 5 followed by: 3.5, Jim
Cuthbert and Colin Wilson, 3, George Phillips, Voldi
Gailans and Mark Hague, 2.5, John Dearie, 2, Gary Wickett
and Lee Ryan, 1.5, Rebecca Blaevoet and John Osborne, 1, Richard
Harrington and Abi Baker.
Grading
prizes went to Jim Cuthbert, Mark Hague and Lee Ryan.
We
welcomed three new members playing in their first B.C.A. event:
Colin Wilson, Rebecca Blaevoet and Abi Baker.
The Derbyshire telegraph gave us good publicity with an article
before the event and a very good feature after the event.
