Braille Chess Association 4 - 2 Glos. Gambits

Report

The B.C.A. came into the final weekend of the 4NCL require 1.5 match points to better last season’s objectives. ON the Friday we came across Glos. Gambits who had informed us in advance that they were defaulting the bottom two boards, giving us a two point advantage at the start of the match.

Tyson won a very interesting game, finishing off a very nice queen pawn ending and having two queens on the board at the end of the game!

Chris Ross took an early advantage in his game and went out to exploit his opponent’s lackluster opening. However, white repelled all of Chris’ thrusts and was able to close out the game, offering a draw when the match had already been secured.

Sean Loftus, our debut player from Ireland got himself into a tangle from the opening and black seemed set on initiating a hack on the king-side, but suddenly switched to the queen-side, surprising everybody. Black proceeded to open up lines, stole a cheeky pawn and gave white excellent compensation. White was then able to enter into an equal ending and a draw was soon agreed, securing the match points for the B.C.A.

Another debutant, Roger Waters, faced a much stronger opponent and got himself tangled up horribly in the early middle game and allowed his opponent to begin a dangerous king-side attack. Some nice tactics by white blasted the position open and cut the black king down.
