Report
The first victory for
the B.C.A., and it literally went down to the wire!
Steven Burnell was
the first to go down, falling for a simple tactic, blundering his queen,
when he clearly stood better in a KI defence.
The bottom 3 boards
were soon to follow all ending in draws.
John Gallagher pressed throughout the opening against his young opponent,
but failed to continue in a position of strength, when he had the only open
file and the winning chances.
Steven Thacker once
again had a slight material advantage but was once again unable to convert
this in the end-game.
Tyson Mordue played dynamically and outplayed his opponent throughout the
middle game, aiming directly for the king and bringing off the victory.
So, with the match
poised at 2.5-2.5, Chris Ross was the last to finish. Although his opponent
offered several draws, Chris persisted on attempting to convert the tiniest
of advantages, and industrious work, tenaciousness was ultimately paid off
after 6 hours and 54 minutes of the 7 hour time control, and Chris was
delighted to pull of the B.C.A.’s first victory!
